1.5. Transnational approach

Even if there are in Europe some Cultural Routes implemented at national level, the major part of them are built at trans-national level. On the other hand, the construction of a shared European identity, especially in the cultural field, requires an approach overcoming the national boundaries. Furthermore, a cluster of cultural tourism products focused on the architectures of the totalitarian regimes of the '900, designed at trans-national level, has a higher market appeal than local and fragmented offers. In fact, the competition in the international tourism market is very hard, especially in a segment as that of "cultural tourists", who are very demanding. To achieve a stronger critical mass on trans-national basis is, therefore, a real competition leverage. Finally, the trans-national cooperation enables us to share and exchange know-how on the key topic of management, preservation and economic valorization of cultural assets, especially in urban contexts.
